Gingerbread Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 3.5% homogenized milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ΒΌ cup dark chocolate, 70% or higher grated
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 6 allspice berries
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, with skin removed
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg freshly grated

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized pot, bring the milk to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat. Sprinkle in cocoa powder, brown sugar, and dark chocolate.
  • Continue to stir, until all ingredients are melted and combined.
  • Add the cinnamon, cloves, allspice berries, ginger, and freshly grated nutmeg.
  • Once cooled, cover the milk and place it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  • When ready to use, strain out the spices and reheat on the stovetop.
